About Rob Tannion

Rob Tannion is a creative, inspirational & versatile director & choreographer who works has created works in many genres of the arts. Circus, Musicals, Commercials, Events, Site Specific Theatre, Physical Theatre, and Dance.

 

His works are informed by his cross genre experience and they are highly visual, theatrical and  physically dynamic,  with choreographically detailed staging and an  inventive use of scenography, apparatus and projections.

Until 2015, Rob has been director and author of more than 30 original creations - including BEAUTIFUL GHOSTS (2015, Hong Kong), in 2014 CIRKUNIA for Transito 5 in Mexico (co direction with Jorge Díaz), FECHA DE CADUCIDAD  for Organización Efímera (Spain). The outdoor large scale event CAYENDO VOLANDO for La Tribu Performance (Panamá), and SALT for integrated dance company Restless Dance Theatre (Adelaide, Australia).

 

In 2013/14  Organización Efímera won the prestigious IBERESCENA award to coproduce their show Fecha de Caducidad and to tour it to Spain, Mexico, Brasil as well as to Malta.

 

Rob created works in 2013 for companies such as BIKES AND RABBITS (London), LOST IN TRANSLATION CIRCUS (Brussels), CIRKO DE MENTE (México City) as well as a creative collaboration with ZEN DEL SUR (Granada, Spain). In the same year he returned to the stage to perform the multimedia work Apparition for KLAUS OBERMAIER, performing in festivals in Norway, South Korea, Germany and Poland.

 

In 2012, directions  included large scale commercial Christmas circus season in Madrid´s Teatro Circo Price as well as creating the show MOVIMIENTO PERPETUO for the project CRECE SUR in Rio de Janeiro.

 

Since late 2011 he is the Artistic Director of Organización Efímera, a contemporary circus organization based in Spain, with General Director Tania Cervantes and Associate Director Jose Luis Redondo.

2011 Acrobatic Director and Fight Director on  the large scale new musical in China called SPIRAL.

 

2011 Creator and Director of BEAUTIFULLY IMPERFECT for the National Institute of Circus Arts in Melbourne, Australia

 

2010, 2009, 2008 Creator and Director of 3 original shows for the circus project CRECE (a Carampa initiative) in the Teatro Circo Price in Madrid.

 

Associate Choreographer (to Peter Darling) on the musical verison of Lord of the Rings in Toronto in 2005/06, and in 2004 Rob worked as casting choreographer for the musical Billy Elliot the Musical.

 

Between 2004 and 2010, Rob co founded and was co artistic director of the London based physical theatre company Stan Won´t Dance with Liam Steel and Ellie Beedham.  Creations included: SINNER, REVELATIONS, SKYLON SPIRITS, OFF THE WALL, and BABEL.

 

Choreographing and stunt coordinating commercals for campaigns such as FOSTERS; BAILEYS and BACARDI for production companies such as BBH and Black Dog Films in London.

 

During 2001 and 2002, Rob performed with theatre company  Complicite in London, working on NOISE OF TIME and STRANGE POETRY with the LA Philharmonic Orchestra.

 

Film work includes:  the 6 part BBC miniseries STIG OF THE DUMP where he played the character of STIG, and in the  feature film RESIDENT EVIL.

 

Between 1994 - 2000 Rob was a core performer and creative collaborator with DV8 Physical Theatre in London, working on and touring internationally  ENTER ACHILLES, BOUND TO PLEASE, HAPPIEST DAY OF MY LIFE, COST OF LIVING.
